Labour charge to adjust gears on a bike, including the labour involved in replacing cable/s, derailleur/s, shifters, derailleur hanger,chain, rear sprockets and chainrings as needed.

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE - ADJUST GEARS & REPLACE PARTS AS NEEDED

  • Check derailleur hanger alignment and tightness
  • Check rear derailleur for alignment and function; replace if necessary with a compatible derailleur of similar quality
  • Check that rear derailleur is correctly attached and tight
  • Check front derailleur for damage or excessive wear. Replace if necessary.
  • Check that front derailleur is correctly positioned (height and alignment) and tight
  • Check cables for excessive friction, corrosion or visible damage to cables or casings; replace inner cables complete with compatible outer casing as needed.
  • If cables don't need replacing, lubricate cables where they exit casings
  • Check chain for corrosion, damage or excessive wear. Replace if excessively corroded, twisted or stretched more than 1% in length.
  • If replacing a worn chain, replace rear sprockets also and give chainrings a visual check for excessive wear.
  • Lubricate front and rear derailleur pivots (unless derailleur/s replaced)
  • Lubricate rear derailleur jockey wheels (unless derailleur/s replaced)
  • Scrape excess grime and dirt from chainrings, rear sprockets and jockey wheels
  • Check chain lubrication; wipe with rag and lubricate as necessary
  • Check gear levers are positioned properly and tight
  • Check gear lever operation and lubricate or replace if necessary
  • Adjust front and rear derailleur stops
  • Adjust front and rear derailleur cable tension to allow swift and reliable shifts
  • Adjust rear derailleur B-tension screw for minimum clearance from rear sprockets
