Shadow rear derailleurs sit in very close to the bike, and have direct cable routing, minimising risk of snagging on rocks and other obstacles. They don't slap the chainstay (so they're quiet) and the XT Shadow Rear Derailleur has a strong tension spring to minimise ghost shifting over rough terrain.
