28/8/05 - Cootamundra Recovery 70km

Another handicap race, I am not sure about “recovery” though; 3 laps on the “suicide” course.  I am not sure what it means, except for hills, pace and no survivors.

We started out with a small group and was caught after the first lap but we all worked well together,

until the latter stages saw people tiring and dropping off at crucial times [especially the short climbs].  Holding off the block and scratch was being left to only a few riders but I was still determined no to be caught the quicks. With the last two hills remaining I hit them hard trying to get rid of the hangers and bridge the gap to the leaders who were in sight just up ahead.  We caught them and block caught us and it was only 1km to the finish.  Trackie Ben Kirsaten blitzed them to the line and I finished just out of the top ten, first woman. A successful weekend at Cootamundra.
