26" Rims (Mountain)

Gone are the old days when any good bike shop had a range of rims in stock, and good hubs, with which to make quality hand built wheels. Yes, we'll happily do a top job on a custom set of wheels, but we'd need to order some of the parts in first. We enjoy using Velocity rims; they're of excellent quality, are reasonably priced and are Australian made. We've included just a couple of rims in this website that we usually have in stock.

ETRTO: 559 x 19. The rim for a high end built up cross mountain wheelset. Wide enough to allow the use of a large volume tyre, but reasonably light, the XM 719 Disc answers all of the epic mountain biker's needs.

Recommended for building extra-strong wheels with. Machined sidewalls: use with rim brakes or disc brakes. The 24mm external width means that with a 2" tyre the rim is reasonably well protected from direct impact damage on large stones on the trail.

The only choice when you need a rim that is tough and long-lasting. The Cliffhanger is based on the Aeroheat rim, but the walls are 15% thicker to give it added strength and durability. It's also a little wider and a little deeper to handle anything you can throw at it. However, the 28mm width means that with a 2" tyre it is possible to dent the rim from direct impact with stones on the trail - this wide rim needs a wide (say 2.3") tyre to protect it from the trail.
